Historical Information

    On July 9, 1898, a group of men met in the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church, 4 Miles South of Waynesfield, OH to consider the advisability of holding a camp meeting somewhere in the vicinity. the Presenters were Rev. John Stroup, Rev. John Parlette, H.T. Lusk, Granville Metz, P.S. Laycock, Alpha Copeland, John Eisley, and Daniel Leigh.  After a hymn, a season of prayer was let by Rev. Stroup asking the blessing of God 

upon the meeting. Rev. Stroup was then elected chair of the meeting. After much discussion and planning, August 11-21, 1898, was selected as the date of the first camp. 

    Rev. Garrison and Mr. & Mrs. Rowley were engaged as the workers for the first camp. A large tent was secured under which the meetings were held, on a grove on the property of H.T. Lusk and this location was appropriately dedicated for camp meeting purposes. The newly formed Mt. Lookout Camp Meeting Association secured a long-term lease of these grounds, which are still the location of this historical, old camp. Many things have changed in the campgrounds since the days of the firstcamp. The present Tabernacle was constructed in 1900; other buildings have been added in recent years. Today this cam is located at 16862 Wrestle Creek Road, Wapakoneta, OH 45895; 3 Miles west of Waynesfield, OH, Just off state Route 167 and may be reached by paved roads.
